Catch of the week:
Paul James and family stole the headlines after an epic session Sunday, whilst bait fishing on the north shore point. The family eventually recorded 23 prime rainbow trout, across two 12 fish permits. A truly exceptional 45lb combined weight left the family absolutely ecstatic. Paul also weighed in the weeks best trout: a 4lb 8oz specimen, which completed a truly sublime day.

Memorable moment of the week:
The annual Morpeth Lions competition took place Saturday with glorious weather and a brilliant attendance. 51 anglers took part and weighed in some 200 fish during what was a close run contest. Derek Hodgson walked away with the first prize on the adult section, after ledgering his way to an eight fish 23lb haul. Derek sensed the trout had moved to deeper cooler water and was right on the money, as he hammered a shoal in proximity to the valve tower from the Dam Wall. The junior top prize went to Dominic Pearson, who ran Derek close with his fantastic 20lb 8oz eight fish catch.
  • Best areas and flies - Dam Wall and north shore mid-section have been excellent using buzzers, an Orange Blob or a Cat’s Whisker. Mayfly are beginning hatch which should prompt some outstanding fly action in the coming weeks.
  • Best areas and baits/lures: Ledgered orange Powerbait eggs and Garlic Trout Dip, on a short to mid length cast. Dam wall and the north shore point have been best.
Newsflash: Our stocking programme continues, as we look to capitalise on perfect conditions and optimum water temperatures.
