Catch of the week:
Richard Smart had a great day fishing Saturday managing to land 20 rainbows on his usual catch and release ticket. He was fishing over at the bubbles near the small Valve Tower. His technique was an orange buoyant lure fished on a sinking line.
Best areas and flies:
As we head into the last few weeks of the season, the water is now averaging around 9c therefore providing perfect feeding temperatures for trout. We introduced a further 3,000 rainbows Tuesday bringing the final total 51,000. The best area of the week was the bubbles near the small Valve Tower. Anglers reported that fish were right on the bottom. Sinking lines with a team of buoyant flies was the No1 choice. Permit holders Colin Neal and Gordon were back-drifting across the bubbles and both achieved their limits.
Best areas and baits / lures:
t’s been the same for the bait fishermen as far as areas, with the top method being ledger fished garlic Powerbait. The float fished worm is an excellent alternative. With the water level still below average for this time of year, this means the Main Dam is the only area available for bank fishing.
Please note: Banks now close at 4pm and the boats need to be back on the jetty at 4pm.
