Catch of the week:
Fishing in the first stage of the Trout Cup Gintautas Bosas caught a stunning 2.7kg/6lb overwintered fin perfect rainbow.
Memorable Moment of the week:
Ian Rushbrook had a fantastic morning fly fishing on Wednesday. He achieved his 8 limit in under an hour and then caught a further 41 rainbow’s on catch and release.
Best areas and flies:
A recent stocking of 3,000 trout into Middlemead bay certainly spiced up the sport and encouraged the resident trout onto the feed. Many anglers achieved their 8 fish limits as the fish started to move down the dam wall into the Goldfish bowl and all around the Peninsular. Most catches were taken in the first 2 metres of water with fly anglers on floating lines being successful with teams of Diawl Bach’s, Black Buzzers and Hares Ear’s. Richard Smart had a great day on Saturday fishing to the right of the Peninsular next to the Inlet Wall catching 23 trout on a catch and release ticket. All of his trout were caught on small nymphs on a floating line.
Best areas and baits / lures:
Any method anglers have also seen most of their success in the same areas as the fly anglers including the bank from the Large Valve Tower down to the Inlet Wall. Garlic Powerbait has been the most prolific bait, float fished worms have also been very effective
Special message for the new week: Boats in by 8:00pm, banks also close at 8:00pm.
