Catch of the week:
Changeable weather from sunshine to gale force winds including torrential rain and heavy snow has dominated the first nine days of the season. However, the reservoir is now full which is great for anglers as this brings the fish well within casting distance.
As Kielder has had low water levels since summer 2018 the fish will quickly establish themselves in the shallows, easily in range for the bank angler!
This change in water level will also encourage overwintered fish to feed so let’s hope we see these in the catches in the coming months.

Due to the high winds all boats were cancelled for opening but let’s hope for some settled weather where anglers can then explore key fish holding areas at Hawkhope, Belling, Benny Shank, Whickhope, Tower Knowe and Stockie Bay.

  • Best areas and Flies - Hawkhope and Stockie Bay. Fast sinking lines teamed with bright lures fished slow and deep.
  • Best areas and baits / lures: Gordon’s Walls and Stockie Bay. Ledgered Powerbait has been best with various colours including brown and orange.
  • Newsflash: More tagged fish have been released for 2019 so let’s hope we see some caught soon. Various size fish have been tagged so we are very interested to see where they are caught when compared to where they were stocked. Currently each tagged fish is worth £300.
Please Note: Boats are to back on the jetty by 4pm. Please be aware of high water level and take extra care whilst out on the reservoir on foot or on a boat.More fish are planned to be stocked this week, please check out our Facebook page for details.
