Catch of the week:
Lewis Wright from Whitby fished the Dam Wall at the east end using a ledgered white Mice-tail topped with an orange Powerbait egg and netted a cracking 7lb 8oz rainbow for the biggest catch of the season so far.
Memorable moment of the week:
Mike Welburn from Loftus brought his two young daughters for their second visit and was delighted as they showed him how it’s done! Between them they caught eight rainbows and dad was demoted to doing most of the netting.
Best areas and flies:
For most of the week strong bitter cold easterly winds pushed fly anglers to reside in the east bay and along the south shore. Choppy, murky waters did not provide the most ideal conditions and regular fly changes were needed to entice fish. A variety of flies were tried including Bibio, Pennell, Dawson’s Olive and Fritz
Best areas and baits / lures:
At the beginning of the week it was the east end of the reservoir that produced the most action but the last few days of the week saw the west end spring to life, especially Saturday morning which was frantic with anglers catching full limits in just a few hours. White Mice-tail, orange and green Powerbait along with worm on feeder worked best.
